A group of soldiers from the US Army were in Najaf Iraq last week and they asked me what I thought about tap water. They said that they had been told that they needed to drink bottled water because it was contaminated with the "black dirt" (as in "mud"), a by-product of the Iraq War, which they called "dirt water". I was not sure what the US Army was talking about, but I decided to take a look.
I went to the municipal water treatment plant and was surprised to see that they were treating the water for the Najaf Iraq War effort. There were no major problems there. I asked why, and was told that it was a very difficult job and that they needed help. The plant director was nice, and he said that he knew that they needed help. So I told him what the soldiers had told me and he seemed pleased that someone was talking about it.
